Thanks for sharing the background, product descriptions, origins, stories and company behind these marvellous tofu products. If you didnt I would not even know that this brand of Tofu is enjoyed by others and is a successful brand in Japan. I had Johnny 5 years ago in a supermarket in Fukuoka. And indeed my first expression was ‘this taste like ice cream’. I had many more in Singapore although its 3 times more expensive. Like you, I take it out and finish a whole surfboard like a desert without any soya sauce I chanced upon this and bought because of the packaging. I am glad I did.

I’ve seen this brand at a couple stores in Hawaii but have never tried it before. But after this I’m now really tempted to try that Johnny!

I love tofu! It’s one of my favorite dishes and after reading your post I would die for a piece of otokomae-tofu! T__T why is there no such thing in germany?

Thank you for the very informative article. I’ve had the kinugoshi variety, and I must say it was memorable. But I never would have guessed the company was from Kyoto based on their image.

Can’t wait to try “Johnny” when I return to Japan next month…sounds addictive!
